Weddings, Weddings, Weddings

Similar to last summer, we are so lucky to have so many friends getting married this summer. We love attending each wedding to see our friends become man and wife. What a fun, special time their lives - we are so blessed to be celebrating with them!

Our friends Kevin and Katelin kicked off our wedding season with a fantastic wedding in Tulsa. Kevin and Jack lived together in their college house (referred to as The Sycamore House). Jack was one of Kevin's groomsmen, so he headed up to Tulsa for the rehearsal dinner. I met him up there the next day.

Us.

The Geurkink's and The Boyd's.

On our way out of town, we stopped by the Harper's. We got a few rounds of hide and go seek (Maggie and me versus Henry and Jack) in before we had to make our way back home.

We are so excited Kevin and Katelin are married! We can't wait to see what the future holds for you two!

Julie is Married!

Julie's wedding was this past weekend; it marks the end of our summer wedding season. What a great wedding to wrap up with - she was a beautiful, calm bride and I am so blessed to have been a part of her bridal party. She is such a good friend to me! We have been friends since U-Sing freshman year of college, which is about to be 6 years! She is moving to Dallas, since her now husband works there. Good thing she isn't too far away...

We wish Julie and Steve many blessings!

Wonderful Weekend

We are having such a wonderful weekend. We find ourselves extremely busy most weeks and this was just the weekend we needed to get recharged.

Friday night, we attended a couples shower for a our friends in our small group. They are getting married next weekend, but we unfortnately can't go. We are so exicted for them and we loved celebrated with them.

Saturday, we headed to Norman. We took my car to the dealer for some routine maintenance. While it was in the shop, we headed to the pool. It was smokin' hot - the heat got to Duncan Dog and we had to end his day of swimming early. He was bummed, but he wasn't feeling well, so a nap was welcomed. We finished out Saturday with a wedding of family friends of Jack's. What a great wedding! Both the bride and groom are from Norman, plus the bride is a Kappa, so we knew tons of people. In fact, Jack's cousin was a bridesmaid, while his other cousin on the other side of the family was in attendance, and my cousin was there! Only in Norman.  Here are some pictures:

Jack's sweet cousin Jillian.

Allison - my great-grandlittle.

Jack loves these boys, Sam and Will.

Now it's Sunday and we are still enjoying this weekend. We have another busy week ahead of us, so recharge, recharge, recharge!

Even Duncan is recharging.
Enjoying your Sunday, recharing for your week.

Julie is getting married!

I made a quick trip to Dallas this month to meet up with some friends to celebreate our friend Julie's last few days of being a Miss! While I wasn't away from home for more than 24 hours, it was so much fun to see my friends. Since college, we have gotten married and moved away. It takes special events these days to bring us back together. Let's face it, life was so simple we all lived at 700 College.

Here are a few pictures from the night:
Bride to be Julie with Sheridan.

Laura and mom to be Mandy.

Cheers to Julie!

On my way out of town, I couldn't help but to stop at Spinkles - the best cupcakes ever. They were a sweet treat to enjoy that night with Jack.

Happy Wedding Season!

Wedding Season!

It's official! Wedding season is here - Cara and Cole are Mr and Mrs!! Our season started with a bang in Dallas celebrating my friend Cara's last week as a miss!

Sweet Laura came from DC for the weekend. I miss this girl.

The guy making Cara blush.
It was a quick trip to Dallas, but it was lots of fun. The very next weekend, we celebrated her wedding and  marriage! It was so fun seeing kappa friends. As I get older, I appreciate my kappa days more and more. The wedding was perfect; Congrats Cara and Cole!

Simply beautiful.

I love seeing this name.

Such a fun night!
We had loads of fun. We continued the celebration on Campus Corner. As we were leaving, I run into my favorite grandlittle, Melissa. This girls rules and totally makes my day when I see her. She currently lives in LA making her dreams come true.

I must preface, this picture was taken well into the evening. Mel - you look beautiful.
I was spoiled again by seeing her at church the next morning. I love running into friends randomly.

Royal Wedding

Along with millions of others, I got up at 4:45am to watch Prince William marry Kate Middleton. I am so glad I did. It was so spectacular. I have found myself very intrigued with the history of the monarchy this past month. I can rattle off several facts about various members of the family. I even feel like I was at Prince Charles and Diana's wedding; I have seen footage of their wedding all week and watched some pop-up video like show on their wedding. I wasn't there. Not even close.

I was negative 6 when you two married.

I absolutely loved the Bishop of London's sermon at this royal wedding.
“Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.” So said St Catherine of Siena whose festival day it is today. Marriage is intended to be a way in which man and woman help each other to become what God meant each one to be, their deepest and truest selves.
Many are full of fear for the future of the prospects of our world but the message of the celebrations in this country and far beyond its shores is the right one – this is a joyful day! It is good that people in every continent are able to share in these celebrations because this is, as every wedding day should be, a day of hope.
In a sense every wedding is a royal wedding with the bride and the groom as king and queen of creation, making a new life together so that life can flow through them into the future.

If you missed the sermon - you can read it here

I feel like the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are my friends. Does anyone else feel that way, or is it just me? Probably just me.
I'll mail you two a Christmas card!
All of this has made me want to visit England and buy a fancy hat.

Beautiful day. I'm still partial to mine:

PS. I am re-watching the coverage again. I love DVR.

Touchdown Geurkinks

After two short days, we bought a car. We already love it and are so happy with our purchase. Jack is currently making room in our garage so it can sleep peacefully inside tonight.

We found the most wonderful dealer in Shawnee - he delivered the car today to OKC, met us at the credit union, and after about 4 signatures, we had a car! We were very lucky to have found a great car, great rate, and great people to work with. Jack handled all the logistics - way to go Jack!!

On another note - Jordan is getting married in 9 days!!!! Jack and I can't wait to see her and Trey get married!! My pledge sister Emily is getting married in 10 days!!! Next weekend is going to be so fun; we love weddings!

Another Weekend Flys By

Two days is not long enough for a weekend! (note: is it flies or flys.. fled or flewed? I promise I have a college degree!)

We had a pretty relaxing weekend - Saturday was low key. I hung a few pictures, laundry, and cleaned the house. Jack and Duncan went on a run/walk around the neighborhood. After his walk, Duncan hopped on the couch to his favorite spot - on top of every single pillow. We try to not let him on the couch - unless he lays on his red OU blanket or he is invited up. We sometimes stick to that rule, but what can we say ... we love him and want him to feel at home.

I have been feeling abitious to bake lately, so Saturday evening seemed like the perfect time to try my dream creation. As much as a sweet tooth I have, I had never baked a cake using 8'' rounds. So I did. Then I thought, I want to make it a double layer, with buttercream icing, oh and maybe try fondant. So, the baking began.  After just a few hours ...

TA DA!!!!

I lost my patience to sit and smooth the buttercream icing around, so it's a little rough. Tasty as can be!
Sunday was also a big day! Church, delicious lunch prepared by Jack's mom, and a wonderful wedding shower for Jordan! I am so excited for her to get married and I am honored to stand as a bridesmaid as she exchanges vows. I love weddings!

While the shower went on, Jack and Duncan decided to swim. While the water was a little cold for Jack, Duncan L-O-V-E-D it! He chased Jack around the pool, jumped in after tennis balls, and even found his way to the steps. Big Boy Duncan is growing up! I need to get his swimming on video....

Have a great week!
Blessings-
Jack and Kayla

Four Showers in Two Weeks

It's officially wedding season!! I have been to 4 showers (Two of those Jack went to) - what an exciting time for our friends and family!

Two weekends ago, was one of the Geurkink's dear family friends son's couples shower (whew, does that make since?!) Lane and Mike! What a fun time to catch up with friends and enjoy some delicious food!
The next day, Jordan and Trey had a couples shower. Jack and I had such a fun time getting to meet some of Trey's family and friends.

Such an adorable couple! I can't wait for you all to be married!

This past Saturday, myself and other co-bridesmaids hosted a bridal shower for our friend Laura. She is such a dear friend - she is going to make a B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L bride! I wish I had some pictures to share, but I was too busy socializing with everyone!
Saturday continued with a mid afternoon rain shower, which I tried to nap during but it was cut short due to the sun coming back out! Jack had some guys over Saturday night to watch the Oklahoma City Thunder beat LA in game 4! What an exciting game - GO THUNDER!

Sunday flew by as Jack, my mom, and I travelled to Dallas for the day. We made stop at IKEA (which gives me heart burn just thinking of that superstore!) and got almost all of the parts to our entertainment/TV stand. We also stopped at SPRINKLES cupcakes.... delicious.  The main reason for our trip was to throw a shower! I (along with the help of others) put on a surprise bridal shower for my cousin! We had a great time - even though she knew!!
Meghan is 14 months younger than me, so we have basically grown up together. Grandma sometimes get us confused! We played the "bubble gum" game - which we have on video - she was a trooper and did great!
So cute! She did say the shower was better than she expected!

With four showers down, we still have invitations for three more showers! What a fun time during our lives!
Thanks for reading!

Love,
Jack and Kayla
